I grew up in a small town in rural Victoria. I loved the country life – being able to walk everywhere, seeing the stars at night and knowing the faces of all the people in the main street. I moved to the city to make something special of myself and I have no intentions of going back until I achieve just that.
I dream of being a novelist, writing stories that people the world over will dive inside, on the bad days and the good.
In my opinion, art is one of the most important things in life. It’s beautiful, fragile, inspiring, strengthing and quite often the only thing that gets me out of bed in the morning. I am a defender of true art, sell out cliche’s bore me to tears and frustrate me in general. Mostly because lots of people make money out of it, and it’s already been down one thousand times over. However, if the art is making people happy – then it doesn’t matter about the cliches. Even if they do bore me to tears.
One of my favourite quotes is by Adrienne Rich…
“Art means nothing if it simply occupies the table of power which holds it hostage.”
I write a lot of poetry and I do mean a lot. You can find a pretty good collection of it on my Instagram page: @gittahodgetts. Otherwise, if you have a bit of a peruse around my website, you’ll definitely find some. Along with a few short stories and a lot of opinion pieces.
About those opinion pieces – I apologise in advance if they rub you the wrong way. I want to start a conversation. I am passionate and that comes across in what I have to say. In all honesty, though, I just want us all to start working towards making the world a better place. I encourage you to hear me in those articles when I say that, we could all be the problem. I do include myself in that equation by the way. So, just be open when you read them because of I always to be open when you disagree with me.
Be kind, my loves.
